Family Radio's Music Policy
STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE
THE MUSIC USED ON THE FAMILY RADIO NETWORK SHOULD BE APPROPRIATE TO MINISTER TO THOSE WHO LISTEN, AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE TO THE GLORY OF GOD.
The music used on the Family Radio Network should be
worshipful and reverent: in spirit, in form and content. It
should reflect a Biblical balance of Psalm, Hymn & Spiritual
Song. It must be a positive expression of Biblical and Christian
reverence for God. It should serve to minister to those who
listen, as would the ministry of music and the preaching of the
Word in a worship service.
The music used on the Family Radio Network should be
beautiful in it's religious thought or spirit, and should be
embodied appropriately in the lyrics, in the music, and in the
blending of these in song. It should satisfy the aesthetic
guidelines of balance, unity, variety, harmony, design, rhythm,
restraint, and fitness which are the conditions of all art.
GUIDELINES
The music used on the Family Radio Network should
represent the full range of the revelation of God as found in
God's Word, the Bible.
The lyrics of the songs must be good lyrics; they
cannot rely upon the music to carry them.
The music of the songs should be artistically
defensible as good music; it should not have to rely on the words
to carry it.
Whenever Psalms or other portions of Scripture are
involved, the lyrics of the songs should be true to the inspired
Word or God. Such lyrics should at the same time not be overly
generic, and should be free from excessive emotionalism and/or
sentimentality, showing reverence for God.
Songs which contain lyrics other than that which is
drawn directly from Scripture should contain lyrics which reflect
Truth, a genuine love of God, but should always be in harmony
with the whole counsel of God, and again, should not be overly
generic, and should be free from excessive emotionalism and/or
sentimentality, showing reverence for God.
The music of a particular song should be suitable to
the text to which it has been adapted and should be as free as
possible from association with secular music. The purpose of the
music on the Family Radio Network is intended to be used for
edification and worship, not entertainment.
Such styles of music which contain excessive
percussion, syncopation and/or extreme chromatics should
generally be avoided.(although these may be of value for special
settings such as Christmas or Easter, etc.)

SOME FINAL NOTES
Family Radio does not announce the song titles or artist's name over the air. The music is there to draw attention to God, not the performer.
Family Radio does not accept cassettes for airplay. The cassette tape hiss makes them unusable in a broadcast environment.
